My Story

This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.

  • Kick Cancer’s Butt Day
    8 Oct 2025

A bit sore today. I put off today’s ride ‘til the afternoon, where we ended up with some light winds and sprinkly rain. Riding conditions were ok though t- not too hot, not too windy. So far I’ve been trying to fit in rides around a few other jobs and haven’t really put any thought into planning where I’ll go, so it was back to the sculptures turn off and back. I was glad of the rain, sparse as it was as it kept the dust down as a couple of dirt bikes hooned past me.

The last 5km home felt a bit harder today - my legs were sore and I tried to power up the last couple of hills , and needed a rest at the top of one of them - they’re not big hills, I was just sore!

Anyway, thanks to my sponsors so far - the Children’s Medical Research Institute is a great cause to get. Behind.

  • First ride of the month
    7 Oct 2025

Usually by this time of the month I’m a week into rides, sore and wondering if I’ll make a goal. This year, I was away for the first week and looked into hiring a bike so I could get started. There were a few different websites, but the price for 5 days was pretty pricey and although I toyed with the idea for a while, I realised I would be better off using those funds to sponsor myself and then make the distance on my trusty pushbike when back home.

Safe to say it’s been a while between cycles. So much so that my bike has become the kids’ spare bike for when their bike has a flat tyre or is getting some fort of repair. My helmet had been discarded to a corner of the shed and needed some dusting off, and the seat was definitely not in a position amenable to my height requirements.

Adjustments made and I was off. The mental load wasn’t too high today - I knew what i was in for - ride to the sculptures turn off, feeling easy, then turning for home into a bit of a head wind and seemingly slightly more uphill. Today I decided to try and tack on a little bit of an extra distance and took a little downhill across Silverton Road at the end of the ride. Sore muscles by the time I was home, but I was kinds to myself with the pace today. I’m expecting tomorrow to be harder.
