My Story
In October, each year I have cycled and raised much needed funds to help Fight Kid’s Cancer. This year will be my tenth and final year, being 84 years of age, Over the previous nine years I have ridden 9,592 kms and raised $52,132 for this very special cause.
This year, I will be off to a slow start as far as distance is concerned, having not been in the best of health for many months and not being on my bike since January! This does not mean that I cannot and should not raise more much needed funds. My target for this year was to raise $7,868 to reach total donations over ten years of $60,000. My km target is 408 kms to reach a total of 10,000 kms over the same period.
Due to the success of 'Kick Cancer's Butt Day', 9th October, when donations were doubled, by sponsorship funds, my donations increased by $5,385. Thank you to everyone who took advantage of that day.
Consequently, I have increased my target to $17,868 to reach total donations of $70,000 (an average of $7,000 per year).
Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
And so, I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Together, we can save little lives.
Thanks for your support.
