I'm Riding For
Ros

I ride in memory of my mother, who died from Leukemia in 2017, as I do every year. It has been 7 years since she left us, and this photo is taken with her beloved sister, who had to watch her little sister fade away, even when she had always thought she would go first. Although she was not a child and nor was I, my mother's death affected me deeply, and I know that any money raised to fight cancer, helps everyone, child or adult, beat this thing.
My Story
This October, I am again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge.
Right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia, 3 die every week. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
But cancer is a big killer for adults too. My mother died from leukemia, which is the third biggest cancer killer in Australia. Thanks to research, more kids are surviving leukemia every day, but over half of the adults diagnosed with blood cancer will lose their lives.
And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work to reduce childhood cancer, knowing this will have a flow-on effect in the treatment of all cancers, and so benefit EVERYONE (child or adult) touched by cancer.
Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Together, we can save lives.
Thanks for your support.

My Challenge

Off we go!
5 Oct 2025I'm off to a start for another year of the challenge, and I have done my first two rides. Only short ones so far, and I'll be building up slowly, as I recover from an aggravated sacroiliac joint. First ride was an oft-pedalled route around my suburb after work, on Day 1. Couldn't wear either T-shirt or jersey cos it was too cold (apparent temp 7 degrees!), and they wouldn't have fitted over the layers I had to wear to keep warm! And my first ride also came with my first mad magpie encounter! Hope I don't have any more of those. I will avoid that particular spot if I can.
My Second ride couldn't have been more different! Perfect weather, and no magpies! It was a tram and ride to meet friends at Floriade. First time in a while the trusty steed and I have been on the tram together. Floriade was LOVELY and I went a bit mad with the camera.
So far my hip has held up ok, so here's being able to keep riding and up the kms a bit!
